Character growth
The character growth system

In most MMORPGs the strength and the social standing of a player's alter ego depend directly on level. As they levelled, a player received a strictly limited number of experience points to distribute as they saw fit, and ended up with a narrowly specialised character: a mage, a warrior, a ranger and so on. RF Online offers an original system in which every skill develops separately. That gives the player the unusual chance to build an all-round character who fights just as well hand to hand as with ranged weapons and Force, a mage-warrior or a ranger-mechanic.
The system leaves the player free of the limits a level imposes, to build exactly the character that suits how they like to play.
Mastery
A character's mastery of their skills sets the main attack and defence values used in battle.
Status points
Every character in the game raises their standing by taking part in PvM, RvR and PvP fighting. Standing also rises through completing quests. A player who achieves real results can stand for the post of race leader, or enter the ruling senate.
Specialisation
On reaching a certain level a player can choose a second class specialisation for their character, and if they wish can broaden it further by taking the multi-class or cross-class path.
Level
A character's level decides what equipment and weapons they can use. The right combination will decide the outcome of more than one fight.
