About the game
RF Online, a sci-fi MMORPG
RF Online is a sci-fi MMORPG by the Korean studio CCR, with magic and technology in one world. Force, the power the game uses for magic, sits next to firearms, launchers and walking war machines. Three races fight over one planet, Novus, which is rich in the resources all of them need.
The three races
| Race | Fights with | Only they have | Classes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bellato Union | Force and technology | MAU battle mechs | Warrior, ranger, spiritualist, specialist |
| Holy Alliance Cora | Force first of all | The Animus, summoned spirits | Warrior, ranger, spiritualist, specialist |
| Accretian Empire | Machines; they have no Force | Launchers and siege mode | Warrior, ranger, specialist |
Bellato Union
The humanists of the steampunk age. They are born traders, a nation that found a balance between technology and magic, and the only race that builds MAU battle armour. Their expansion brought them to Novus and into war with the other two. The Bellato in detail.
Holy Alliance Cora
The worshippers of the dark god Decem, and the strongest users of Force. Only the Cora can summon an Animus, and only their spiritualists who have reached the highest degree of enlightenment. The Cora in detail.
Accretian Empire
Convinced materialists in mechanical bodies. They have no Force at all. They fight with launchers, whose rounds carry fire, water, earth or wind, and with a siege mode the other races cannot match. The Accretians in detail.
The MAU, the Bellato's mechs
The Massive Armor Unit is the core of the Bellato army: a multi-ton machine driven by a specially trained pilot. The first MAUs were built for construction and research. When the Bellato first sent them against the Accretians on Novus, the Accretian launchers destroyed nearly all of them, and the design was rebuilt for war on this planet.
There are two kinds. The Goliath has the heaviest armour and blades for close combat. The Ballista carries less armour and heavy ranged weapons. Both can be refitted with other weapons and parts. How the MAU came to be.
The Animus, the Cora's spirits
An Animus is a spirit bound to its summoner by a blood contract. There are four:
| Animus | Spirit of | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Paimon | the sword | The strongest fighter of the four. Attacks in close combat and guards its master. |
| Inanna | blessing | Fights little. Shields its master and restores the health of the Cora around it. |
| Hecate | fire | Meteors and flame. Breaks the enemy at the turning point of a fight. |
| Isis | fury | Lightning that ends a short fight in seconds, with too little stamina for a long one. |
An Animus grows with its summoner and reaches its last stage, Expert, when the character reaches level 50. All four in detail.
Launchers and siege mode
Launchers are the Accretian Empire's most destructive weapon. They are too heavy, and kick too hard, for anyone but an Accretian soldier, and one shot hits a whole area. The Siege Kit adds siege mode, which the Empire's soldiers call the weapon of victory. Launchers in detail.
Three-faction RvR
Anywhere outside the races' headquarters, players of different races can attack each other at any time. The game calls this Race versus Race. The organised battles come on top of it.
The war for the Crag Mines
The races fight for each other's control terminals. The winner mines the richest ore in the centre of the mines, under the protection of the Altar Keeper. How the mine war works.
The race leader
Every week each race elects its Patriarch by vote, with Archons beside them, and they lead the race until the next election. A vote counts for more the higher the voter's rank. How the vote works.
Guilds and Battle Dungeons
Guilds keep the same players fighting side by side. Battle Dungeons are generated missions with the deadliest monsters in the game.
How a character grows
A class does not fix your gear. You wear and carry what suits the way you play, and each piece changes your stats as well as your looks. Skills and Force grow with use, each up to level 7, and Force can be bound into items called Force Reavers. A Bellato or Cora Craftsman, or an Accretian Engineer, can set up guard towers that attack enemies who come near. What makes the game.
What you need to play
A Windows 10 or 11 PC, or a Mac through our experimental app, and room for the 4.2 GB client. The client is the official one, in English or Russian. The game data is version 2.1.5, the Episode 2 build. System requirements.
Questions people ask
Is RF Online free to play?
Yes. The account, the client and the game cost nothing.
Can you pilot a mech in RF Online?
Yes, as a Bellato. The MAU, a Goliath or a Ballista, is driven by a Bellato pilot. The other two races have no MAU.
Which race should I play?
Pick by how you want to fight: the Bellato for the MAU, the Cora for Force and the Animus, the Accretians for launchers and siege mode.
