Accretia

The Accretian Military Empire is a state of absolute totalitarianism. Every soldier performs the function strictly assigned to them and is guided by one slogan alone: the Empire above all. Everything else, including the lives of other beings, the existence of other planets and even their own lives, means nothing to an Accretian, and abstractions such as humanism, goodness or compassion are simply foreign to them.

The reason lies in what they are: Accretians are a race of soulless neuromechanical beings who carry out their command's orders without question.

The other races consider the Accretian Empire the most ruthless force in the universe. That is not quite right, because along with pity the Accretians know nothing of hatred either, or of any feeling at all. They are better described as rational, choosing only whatever brings the Empire the greatest benefit at that moment.

The whole Empire is one enormous war machine that exists only to grow larger and stronger. Entire planets turned into weapons factories, entire peoples enslaved and modernised to swell the countless armies of cyber-soldiers with cloned brain modules: this is the Great Accretian Empire, the most efficient military force in the universe.

In their drive towards rationalism and knowledge the Accretians have achieved a great deal, documenting both their successes and their failures meticulously. So of all the peoples drawn into the conflict on Novus, they may be the only ones who know how this war began.
