Do I lose experience on death?

From level 8 a character can lose experience on death. The amount varies and tends to zero.

How do I gain experience?

By killing monsters and by completing quests.

How do stats work in RF Online?

In most MMORPGs you raise a general level that then lets you develop stats. Not here: the character level affects only HP, FP and SP.

What is special about the experience system?

RF Online uses a separate points system that builds your own stats and decides which weapons you use. Any class can use any weapon or armour as long as the level, ability and experience requirements are met.

What is the bar at the bottom, and why does the percentage keep growing?

It is your experience. When it passes 100% your character gains a level.

At what level can I choose a specialisation?

The first at level 30, the next at level 40, with no quests required.

There is an icon next to my name. What does it mean?

Your combat rank. You can see it in your character's status window.

What is the maximum level?

50. Reaching it is where the game only begins.
